Everyone's got something to say, but can you say it in ten minutes? We'd like to give you the chance to take the stage and share your vision in 600 seconds. That's right, you've got just 10 minutes be it in photos (limit of 40) or multimedia.

You may take less time but no more. The options you have are a self running show like Soundslides, which runs off files inside the folder (no Internet linked shows). You can also create a flash movie, quicktime or wmv file video. If you choose a show and have it timed for 10 minutes then you have no time to introduce the show or make other comments. We would recommend voice over the music what you want to say and keep it under 10 minutes.

10-minute show Guidelines

1. We will accept only 15 shows total. These will be on a first come-first serve basis. Please email me to put your name on the list at Stanley@stanleyleary.com.

2. You may choose to show up to forty digital images.

3. You have a maximum of ten minutes to describe your images.

4. You may choose a multimedia self running presentation. It must be in a self contained file on a CD which can be copied onto another computer. Be sure this works on a Mac or PC. One of the best programs for this is SoundSlides. Keep the show under 600 seconds.

5. Image size for self running shows should be no bigger than 1024x768, since this is the limit for many projectors.

Everyone's got something to say, but can you say it in five minutes? We'd like to give you the chance to take the stage and share your vision in 300 seconds. That's right, you've got just 5 minutes be it in photos (limit of 20) or multimedia.

You may take less time but no more. The options you have are a self running show like Soundslides, which runs off files inside the folder (no Internet linked shows). If you choose a show and have it timed for 5 minutes then you have no time to introduce the show or make other comments. We would recommend voice over the music what you want to say and keep it under 5 minutes.

You will need to arrive at 6:30 p.m. on the night of the event to give us time to load your show onto the computer so we are ready to start by 7:00 p.m.

5-minute show Guidelines

1. We will accept only 15 shows total. These will be on a first come-first serve basis. Please email me to put your name on the list at Stanley@stanleyleary.com.

2. You may choose to show up to twenty digital images.

3. You have a maximum of five minutes to describe your images.

4. You may choose a multimedia self running presentation. It must be in a self contained file on a CD which can be copied onto another computer. Be sure this works on a Mac or PC. One of the best programs for this is SoundSlides. Keep the show under 300 seconds.

5. Image size for self running shows should be no bigger than 1024x768, since this is the limit for many projectors.

Digital Image Guidelines
for the 20 photo choice.

1. All digital images must be on a multi-platform CD.

2. All images should be sized at 72 dpi and the largest dimension no more than 10 inches.

3. Save files as JPEGs with medium (7) compression

4. Name files so they will be in order.  Use two digits always starting with 01, 02, 03 etc…
5. Put the files in a folder labeled Lastname_firstname
So if your name is Bob Carey the folder will be named:
Carey_Bob

6. Remember, no more than 20 images in the folder.

Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer we could use help setting up chairs and taking them down.  Maybe someone would like to coordinate food.  Just let me know.  Together we can make this a fun time for all.

Suggestions

Elevator Speech
Everyone should have an elevator speech.  The idea is that no matter where you are if someone asked what you do or about your passion you can in the time it takes to ride an elevator to the top floor articulated your message in a coherent thought presented in about 45 – 60 seconds.

Goal

What do you want your audience to take away from your 5 minutes?  Tony Compollo wrote a book It’s Friday but Sunday’s Coming.  Here is audio recording of that message http://www.tonycampolo.org/mp3/itsfriday.htm It is 45 minutes, but the main thing is the title in itself is the message.  Tony Compollo goes on to give stories to support his theme.

Audience Capacity

The audience will most likely only remember 1 point from your presentation.  So, it is better to have 1 point which you use different things to illustrate your point than a string of points.

Rehearse

For years I have been involved in putting photography programs together where we are recruiting speakers.  What is really sad is so many of these photographers show up on the day of the event and think they can just pull images from folders on their computer and then just start talking to the group.

The best presentations are the ones where the photographer has practiced their presentation with an audience of their friends/family and taken their feedback to refine the presentation.

Resource

One of the best resources you have is educators.  They have been taught how to prepare a lesson plan (goals and objectives) and would make some of the best test audiences for your material.
